The Dos and Don’ts Of Creating Your Own Capsule Wardrobe

Post by Taislany Gomes • October 18, 2019 • Fashion

Creating your own capsule wardrobe has so many benefits, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner! You’ll save time getting dressed each morning, and you’ll save so much money because you simply won’t feel the need to buy anything else. You won’t be contributing to all of the landfill waste that is created from fast fashion, either. If this is something that interests you, you can find the dos and don’ts of creating your own capsule wardrobe below.

  1. Do Only Buy Clothes You’re Positively In Love With

When you buy clothes for your capsule wardrobe, whether it’s a plain white shirt or a jazzy skirt, you need to make sure you absolutely love it. It should be something you can see yourself wearing and mixing and matching for years to come. This is why you should never buy clothes on a whim, and you should have a real sense of the clothes you tend to reach for most.

  1. Don’t Make A Purchase You Don’t Really Need

Always think about a purchase carefully. Know when to be sensible and when you don’t truly need something. Only buy when there’s a definite gap in your capsule wardrobe.

  1. Do Make Sure Each Thing You Buy Can Be Worn With Multiple Items

Make sure everything you buy is something that can be mixed up with other items you own. You really shouldn’t buy an item if you know you’ll struggle to style it. Having the odd patterned item is great, but you should also have some plain and neutral items or you will struggle to put outfits together. Avoid clothes that tend to be worn once or twice too, such as occasion dresses. Instead, see if you can put outfits together using multiple items.

  1. Don’t Neglect To Purchase Layers

Layers are key, so don’t neglect to purchase them. Shirts, cardigans, jumpers, coats, and other items are all essential. Ideally, some of the clothes you have should be suitable for all seasons providing they are styled correctly.

  1. Do Accessorize

Accessorizing your outfit can make them look completely different. It can also funk up a plain outfit! You can look for a Debenhams discount code or another voucher if you want to stock up on pieces to accessorize with.

  1. Don’t Follow Trends

Never follow trends. They come and go way too quickly! A wardrobe full of trends will go out of style so fast, you’ll end up wanting to replace everything. You need to get used to dancing to the beat of your own drum.

  1. Do Come Up With Your Own Colour Palette And Style

Have a solid idea of the colours you love to wear, as well as the style of clothing. You might love how boho clothing looks, but if you usually reach for t-shirts and jeans, then you know you won’t really wear those items. See if you can define your palette and the clothes you wear to make shopping easier in the future.
