Living in such a cold country requires knowledge on how to achieve the perfect tan. Quite essential, actually. I remember not caring about these things when I was 14-15 years old but as we get older we tend to do anything that keeps us looking glowy and healthy.
My Self-tan journey started back in 2014. I used to go out clubbing all the time and looking pale was just not ON! I have tried every single brand out there – from drugstore to high end. That’s why I decided to put together a few fake tan tips you need to know:
5 FAKE TAN TIPS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1. Choose a fake tan product you like and trust
When it comes to self-tanning, it’s important to research the right brand and product for you. There are loads of different lotions or mousses that you can choose from, but make sure to go for something you trust and have heard good reviews from. Not to mention that some tanning lotions are super disappointing, why? Once you apply it, it’s transparent! Yes, it will look like any other lotions but the formula has really poor quality and won’t give you any color which will definitely make you patchy in some areas.
I have been using Bondi Sands for 5 months and have not changed ever since.I love the Bondi Sands formula as the foam is tinted and you can see where it has been applied. It’s very easy to apply with the mitt, and it leaves an even and streak-free tan.
Your skin will have a natural gold color. Make sure to leave it on the skin for a longer period of time to allow a deeper color to develop. The best part? It has a fabulous coconut scent to it (it will give you tropical vibes) and is vegan and cruelty-free.
Make sure you exfoliate regularly for an even result. When you exfoliate you remove dead skin cells and you are left with a smooth surface to apply the tan. Exfoliating before tanning means: looking like a golden goddess!
Note: If you’re waxing or shaving before tanning, make sure you do it more than 24 hours before your tan.
You can never over moisturise. Make sure to put it everywhere you’ve applied the tanning lotion, especially on the dryest parts of your body e.g. the knees, elbows, wrists and ankles. Your skin will feel hydrated and silky smooth.4. Wear gloves, please!
You know that girl who always comes in with orange hands, the one everyone laughs about at work? Well, that’s what happens when you don’t wear a tanning mitt or gloves when applying the product to the skin. I have done it once and OMG my hands looked awful. I would hide them in my pockets everytime someone would approach me for a chat. So, hear me when I tell you: wear gloves, please!Shop: Bondi Sands Light-Medium / Ultra Dark / Liquid Gold / Everyday LiquidGold
5. Let it dry
Don’t fake tan and then touch everything and everywhere around the house, you need to let it dry on your skin without being smudged by clothing or anything that may cause harsh lines.
I tend to do my tan, wait for a good ten minutes and just throw a nice silk robe on. Take the time to get your nails fixed, eyebrows plucked or anything else that requires minimal effort. Why not turn your tanning experience into a little Spa day at the house?!
